🎨 Why So Many Stop at Color Season — and Why That’s Not the End of the Story

Let’s be honest: Once you find out you're a Warm Autumn or a True Summer, it feels like you've unlocked a secret wardrobe cheat code. Suddenly you're tossing out the black blazer and buying everything in camel or periwinkle. You're enlightened. Transformed. Possibly insufferable at dinner parties.(“That color isn’t in your season, Karen.”)
But here’s the real question: Why do so many of us stop there?
The Season High
There’s a reason people love color analysis: it’s clear, comforting, and neatly categorised. It’s like a style horoscope, only backed by undertones instead of Mercury retrograde. Just search “color analysis” online and you'll find:
Thousands of articles
Countless Pinterest boards
Wide variety of Apps that can tell your season based on your favorite color and a selfie
It’s popular because it works — at least, up to a point.
But when it comes to defining your style, what works for YOU—you know, the kind that says “this is who I am and how I want to be seen”—the internet goes a bit... quiet.
Color Is Wonderful — But It’s Not Your Style
I had recently worked with two different clients. One - light spring, but despite the rosy cheeks of hers loving the grass greens, warm peach and muted orange, her greatest need was that to appear more cool and professional, be taken seriously in male-dominated profession she is in. We worked hard to ‚cool‘ her down, pick light summer shades that worked best for her complexion to create that professional wardrobe. Another client - just yesterday - was almost exact opposite. She is a light summer, looking as a kind summer breeze in those colors. But.. longing for bright spring as those are the colors that make her feel more mature and help distance from ‚soft girl‘ looks.
The thing is, color is only a part of style, and style is not just what suits your complexion, it is what works for your inner self, helps you be your best self!
Style is not just about looking good. It’s about feeling right, feeling like you.
You can wear your perfect seasonal palette and still feel like you’re playing dress-up in someone else’s clothes. (We’ve all been there.)
What Colour Can’t Tell You
Your season won’t tell you:
Whether you feel empowered in structured silhouettes or relaxed in softness
If your vibe leans more to raw energy of positivity or intriguing conflict (or both, depending on the day)
What garments make you feel most yourself before a big meeting or on a quiet Sunday morning
And it definitely won’t tell you why you’ve held onto that one old leather jacket for 15 years — even though it’s technically the wrong color.
So… What Now?
This is where it gets exciting.
^If you’ve already had your colours done — congratulations! You’ve taken your first step toward intentional dressing. But don’t stop here.
There’s a whole world beyond “Light Spring” — one that involves:
Shape
Texture
Personality
Lifestyle
And yes, sometimes wearing black just because it feels right
True personal style isn’t about rules. It’s about resonance.
Coming Up in Part 2
In the next post, let‘s dive into what really defines your style: The “style anchors” that help you make confident wardrobe decisions.
✨ Spoiler alert: It’s more fun (and freeing) to dress in style than you think.
Until then, take a peek in your wardrobe and ask yourself —Does this feel like me… or just my undertone?
